America Rose Selections Winners For 2004 |
 |
| |
Every year All-America
Rose Selections (AARS) evaluates
a number of roses in 27 official AARS trial gardens across the U.S. Their
gardens represent a wide range of climates throughout the United States,
so the roses selected must do well in all of the climates. They closely
examine the hardiness, disease-resistance, novelty, and color of its
blossoms during a two-year period. Only two or three roses each year
win the coveted distinction of receiving an AARS award. For 2004:

Memorial Day™ is from
the most popular class of modern roses, hybrid tea. It is a medium-tall,
upright and bushy rose that offers very large, full, spiraled blooms with more
than 50 petals per flower. The buds are pointed and ovoid, and its clear pink
flowers have a lavender accent. The blossoms grow to up to 5 inches in diameter.
Like other hybrid teas, its long cutting stems are covered with green foliage
that accent the large blossoms.
Memorial Day has
a strong damask rose perfume and loves hot weather.
With its classic, strong damask rose fragrance, a
single Memorial Day rose can fill an entire room with sweet rose
perfume. A vigorous
and productive performer, Memorial Day is highly disease resistant
and especially loves hot weather, particularly for unfurling its
commemorative rose petals. It makes a great, easy-to-grow addition
to any garden.
Memorial Day was hybridized by Tom Carruth. Its parentage is a combination
of Bluberry Hill and New Zealand. It’s being introduced
by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower of Upland, California. Order while supplies last.
