Pruning roses,  watering roses, feeding roses, winterizing roses All America Rose Selections (AARS) Winners For 2006


Every year All-America Rose Selections (AARS) evaluates a number of roses in 27 official AARS trial gardens across the U.S. Their gardens represent a wide range of climates throughout the United States, so the roses selected must do well in all of the climates. They closely examine the hardiness, disease-resistance, novelty, and color of its blossoms during a two-year period. In 2005, for the first time ever, two of the selected winners are shrub roses. Only two to four roses each year win the coveted distinction of receiving an AARS award. For 2006, the winners are:

Julia Child

Julia Child is medium, rounded and bushy rose. The blossoms are old fashioned, medium-sized, and very full. The fragrance is strong licorice candy and spice. It is a consistent, hardy and floriferous in all climates

Named after the American chef, this rose is buttery gold floribunda with glossy leaves and great disease resistance.

Fragrance: Slight   
Foliage: Glossy green
Blossoms: Buttery gold
Disease resistance: Very good

Wild Blue Yonder

Wild Blue Yonder is the first lavender-hued rose to win the AARS award in many years. It is a medium-tall, upright, bushy rose. The blossoms are medium-sized and ruffled. The deep green bush are a great backdrop against the velvet-lavender blossoms.

Height: 1.2-1.5 m (4-5’)

Fragrance: Strong citrus blossom & rose   
Foliage: Deep green, glossy
Blossoms: Purple-red highlighted in lavender
Disease resistance: Exceptional

Rainbow Sorbet

This extraordinary floribunda is as strong as it is beautiful, offering bright yellow, ornage and red blooms that finish into a stunning soft yellowy pink. Its long healthy stems make it ideal for cut rose collections as well.

Tahitian Sunset

The soft oranges, yellows and pinks of this Award Winner will add beauty to any gardenscape. The intense fragrance and brilliant 5 inch blooms combined with strong, glossy green foliage, make this a must-have rose for any serious gardener.

Height: 1.05-1.35 m (3.5-4.5’)  
Petals: 25-30
Fragrance: Strong  
Foliage: Glossy green
Blossoms: Orange, yellow and pink
Disease resistance:

is a Hybrid Tea with classic form, hybridized by Zary of the United States of America. The high-centered orange-yellow buds open to peachy apricot-pink blooms with yellow highlights. The large blooms are fragrant and have about 30 petals. The bush is tall and has semi-glossy foliage.
