Pruning roses, watering roses, feeding roses, winterizing roses Types of Roses
The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing better than they have ever done before.

Vita Sackville-West

For those unfamiliar with roses, the wide variety of roses available can be a bit overwhelming. Here then is a quick primer on the various rose types, hardiness, rose height and size, and growing zones of bareroot roses offered by Regan Nursery. Within each type there are many individual varieties, all available for ordering online during our November to January season.

Hybrid Teas & Grandifloras

Hybrid Teas are tall, elegant plants producing the classic long-stem rose. They produce individual blossoms and flower repeatedly during the season. Hardy in zones 4-9. Grandifloras (Gr) are tall elegant plants which bloom repeatedly during the season, and generally feature clustered blossoms with stems which are slightly shorter than those of hybrid teas. Hardy in zones 4-9.

Floribundas

Ideal for borders or containers, floribundas provide an almost constant show of color, and bloom more freely than teas and grandifloras. They are lower growing and hardy in zones 4-9 (with proper protection).

Landscape Roses

These roses are selected from a variety of classes, based on their ease of care. They are disease-resistant, require little pruning, grow quickly to fill a space and provide a long seasonal show of color. Most landscape roses are grown on their own root.

Climbing Roses

From the classic tea rose to the charming country garden blossom, a climber will add grace & nostalgia to any garden. Use on walls & fences, pillar & post, trellis or entrance way. An added bonus is that they require very little pruning, and nearly all are repeat bloomers.

Miniature Roses

Perfection on this scale can’t fail to captivate! Minis are great in containers, make lovely borders, and solve the space problem for those with a small yard or balcony. Hardy in zones 5-9 (with proper winter protection). Miniatures are grown on their own root.

Standard Tree Roses

The standard tree rose has a 36" trunk and full-sized flowers. They are very elegant lining a walkway or as a feature amongst other plantings. We offer over 100 varieties of Standard, Patio and Miniature Trees! Hardy in zones 4-9.

Patio Tree Roses

These 24" Patio trees are well suited for containers, or place them straight into a special garden spot. They are available in a wide variety of flower styles. Hardy in zones 4-9.

Miniature Tree Roses

This 18" trunk topped with tiny blossoms is perfect for a pot, patio, deck or balcony. Just add a bow to make a special gift for any occasion! Hardy in zones 5-10.

English Roses

New and exciting hybrids of Old Garden & modern bush combine nostalgia with fragrance and repeat bloom. The prominent hybridizer of English Roses is David Austin, there are however, a few new introductions by other rose producers. These roses are noted by the producers initials; (P) Poulson, (G) Guillot and (JP) Jackson & Perkins. All other English Roses were introduced by David Austin. Hardy in zones 5-9.
