The key to healthy gardens begins with healthy, living soil.  Learn how to recycle yard and food waste into a humus rich soil environment.

This will be a highly informative session on the basics of home composting.  The major elements of the class will be:


  • How Decomposition Works
  • What materials to compost and what not to compost
  • Benefits and Uses
  • Improves Soil Health, water retention, soil structure, provides nutrients and aeration
  • Uses of potting soil, mulch and soil amendment
  • Compost Bin Set Up and hot pile demonstration
  • Create habitat for fungi, bacteria, and beneficial bugs and worms to decompose organic matter
  • How to Choose a system to fit your lifestyle
  • Homemade or store bought bins/choices
  • Maintenance, harvesting and troubleshooting
