Oprah Winfrey's newly named The Legends Rose is now available in pre-release at Regan Nursery in advance of its wide availability later this year.

Five years ago, renowned garden designer Dan Bifano arrived at Oprah Winfrey's house with a bucket of roses of various textures, types, and colors. Based on her choices, he worked with hybridizer Tom Carruth for five years to create a new rose.

Named by Oprah in honor of 18 African-American women—Oprah's self-named "The Legends"—The Legends Rose is available today from Regan Nursery. It is one of the largest hybrid teas ever created. The rose is red with black tips and ruffled petals (like "a Spanish dancer's dress," Bifano says).

According to Weeks Roses, "‘Legends’ has monstrous buds that open to humungous blossoms of rich ruby red."
