Rosa English Rose

Carding Mill (Auswest) has flowers of beautifully mixed shades of pink, apricot and yellow, overall, giving the impression of rich apricot. At the bud stage, when the petals are just starting to unfurl, the inside of the petals are a very rich, deep apricot as opposed to the paler, soft yellow undersides. When fully open the center of the flower is well filled with petals, their closeness giving the impression of a rich, apricot - pink. Around the center, the loose ring of petals curl in slightly and so show their pale apricot yellow undersides. It will quickly make a lovely, bushy, rounded shrub with quite straight stems, the many flowers nodding just slightly. There is a strong and beautiful myrrh fragrance. 40-80 petals (David Austin 2004)

Charles Darwin along with Brother Cadfael and Golden Celebration, have some of the largest blooms to be found in the English Rose line. The flowers are very full and rounded at first, then opening up to a shallow cup. They are a lovely shade of rich yellow - almost Old Gold - sometimes with lemony or sandy tints. Lichfield Angel™
Rosa English Rose
Lichfield Angel has flowers which start as charming peachy pink cups, gradually opening to form neatly cupped rosettes. Each bloom has a perfect ring of creamy-apricot waxy petals enclosing numerous smaller petals. Eventually the petals turn back to form a large, domed, creamy-white flower. The overall effect in the mass in sunshine is almost pure white.
Lichfield Angel will form a vigorous, rounded shrub which, with its blooms nodding attractively on the branch, will make a fine sight.
It is very useful in a border, as it blends well with all other colours and will act as an intermediary between pinks and yellows.
The fragrance is generally light but has strong elements of clove at one stage.
Lichfield Angel is a limestone sculptured panel, from the 8th century, which was recently discovered in Lichfield Cathedral. It depicts the Archangel Gabriel and still bears the remnants of Saxon paint.

The colour is a soft pink shading to a paler pink on the outer petals.
Its growth is rather upright, with its flowers held above the foliage. It flowers freely and continuously.

Strawberry Hill
Rosa English Rose

Strawberry Hill bears medium sized, pure rose pink, cupped rosettes of superb quality. Their colour gradually pales to a lighter pink at the edges of the petals, eventually exposing glimpses of yellow stamens at the centre. The blooms are beautiful at all stages.

The growth is tall, vigorous and rather informal, with small clusters of blooms held on slightly arching brances. Strawberry Hill is very healthy with glossy, dark green foliage. This is a wonderful choice for a position to the rear of a mixed border, or for a border of shrub roses.

Strawberry Hill was awarded the Prix d'Honneur for fragrance from Nantes in 2007.

The Alnwick Rose is a pretty rich pink, with cup shaped buds gradually opening to a deeply cupped flower; later developing into a broad, full-petalled, shallow cup of a soft pink which is paler at the outer edges - a most pleasing progression.
The flowers are beautiful at all stages; this illustrates very well the great variety of form to be found in the Old Rose style.
'The Alnwick Rose' has nice rounded, bushy growth and produces its bloom intermittently from early summer to the onset of frost. Plentiful green foliage ideally complements the flower.

The Generous Gardener is a rose of delicate charm -its flowers being beautifully formed; their colour a soft glowing pink at the centre, shading to palest pink on the outer petals. When the petals open they expose numerous stamens, providing an almost water lily-like effect.
It has strong, elegantly arching growth with polished dark green foliage.
